Spondyloptosis is a condition where the L5 vertebra slips forward and no longer articulates with the lower sacrum. This occurs during development or due to an acute trauma.

  

Although it looks like one of the most painful things that a person can ever endure; our professor told us that she saw one where the patient presented no symptoms and lived a normal life.

Jim Elliot, the missionary to Ecuador who was killed by the native Waodani people grew up in the Portland area.  His mother studied to be a chiropractor at Western States.  His brother also was a chiropractor and became one of the presidents of Western States in the 1960's.

Random Fact #19

The Psoas major muscle is the primary hip flexor in the body.  It is responsible for lifting your knee to your chest  when running or climbing stairs.  Cows and other four legged animals have very little need for this muscle.  This means the most tender cuts of meat come from the Psoas major of a cow...aka the filet mignon

Random Fact #18

In 1 ml of blood there is approx 4,500,000,000 red blood cells.  In one red blood cell there is 250,000,000 hemoglobin molecules.  This means that there are 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 molecules of hemoglobin in one ml of blood.  Seeing that there are around 5 liters of blood in the body that equals a lot of zeros of hemoglobin.   The total weight off all this hemoglobin is around 1-2 pounds.

X-Rays of the lumbar spine are taken with the patient facing away from the source.  This positioning uses the bones of the pelvis/hip as a natural shield to protect the reproductive organs on the anterior side.

The highest concentrations of people infected with Hepatitis C, in the "developed" world, is in China.  This is due to the lack of sterilization of acupuncture needles.
